FINALLY! Someone who states the plain unvarnished truth without any B.S. The very beginning of your video made me think of my Dad. He was what people would call "A Master Carpenter", he owned his own business doing custom cabinetry & remodeling. During the summer he would take me with him to a job site where he would be installing Base Boards, Crown Molding, etc. and my job as an 8 yr old would be to follow behind him with a hammer & a nail set. This was in 1958 so no fancy nail guns. You are so right about the quality of furniture that could be be built with basic hand tools and a minimal amount of power tools. He had a table saw, drill press, a jointer, band saw, a circular saw, and a router. He eventually bought an electric drill but still preferred using his "Bit and Brace" or (what is now considered an antique) manual hand drill. The saw that he used more often was his hand saws (either cross cut of rip depending on the cut). I'll be 74 this month and don't do as much wood working but I still prefer the "Old Fashion" way. I guess I prefer quality over speed. For example ... when I'm nailing together the sides for a drawer, by using just a hammer the nail will go EXACTLY where I want it and no worry about "blow out". Yes, it may take a little longer, but does it REALLY need to be nailed together in a few seconds???? LOL

If I’m paying the Milwaukee tax for the expected longevity then they have greatly disappointed me. In 6 years I’m on drill #3, impact #2, grinder #2, grease gun #2. I thought they would last a lot longer than they did.

Very informative video! Thanks for putting this together. I have quite a few harbor freight Pittsburgh and Doyle hand tools, and they seem very solid and well-built. Wouldn't hesitate to buy more. The Icon line is more expensive and probably better built and more durable, but the less expensive brands are fine for my every day do-it-yourself needs.

In a humid climate the saw top will rust requiring cleaning. I found that a light coat of clear epoxy with a small amount of acetone, alcohol, or s slow drying glycol will provide a gravity leveling to eliminate brush strokes. When cured s light sanding and 000 steel wool buff will provide a smooth surface. I also treat the miter tracks.

Something I recently ran across on Home Depot's website is you can order brands they don't stock...like Jet, and Grizzly power tools, big saws, and that type of stuff that Home Depot doesn't sell, they've teamed up with other companies to provide those tools through their online purchasing option.

Absolutely true. When I was first getting started I was using a low end hand- me- down tablesaw to make these elaborate plywood tackle boxes. There was considerable detail work with lots of specialty cuts. I did it all on this junky saw. I could hardly wait to get a 'real' saw, one with a heavy cast table and refined features.

You actually DO have to do just as much marketing with Etsy these days - they’ve changed a lot in recent years and I’ve watched my numbers fall drastically when I stopped marketing it. The best thing to do is use it to drive people to your website.

Festool is like the Rolls Royce of tools…I can’t afford them but I had the chance to use some at the School of Visual Arts in NYC and they spoiled me forever. 😅 But I have to say, I do agree with you about Ryobi, and I like that my yard tools can interchange with my power tools - I’m honestly surprised how long my drills have lasted. But the batteries don’t! I have a Milwaukee drill too, and it’s excellent. One bit of advice I would give to women woodworkers or people with smaller hands - buy your tools in person. The fact is, a lot of tools aren’t made for us, and if you can’t comfortably hold the tool it doesn’t matter how GOOD it is, you won’t be able to effectively and safely use it.

I'm not much into wood working and don't even own table saw, been thinking about getting one though, I really liked that miter sled around 16mins in vid. Realized fairly early on when you mentioned it doesn't even have to be absolutelu perfect, but if one uses both sides of jig, degrees in total are indeed still always the same, even though there would be slight misalignment. Never thought about that before. Good tip, thank you. I'll for sure keep this in mind in future

That is what my husband is using as his excuse for the wood pile he has built and stacked on shims in the garage for the last 5 months. It has to dry and acclimate or the furniture and cabinets will twist. I think all you guys are just sticking together. "Looking for husband he with you?" "Yeah totally he is in the bathroom at the moment though." "Does wood need to acclimate?" "yeah totally, just let it sit there he'll know when it is ready."

I offload lumber straight from the mills, and I can tell you it's often nowhere near dry. For example, a bundle of 2x4 10' #2 boards consists of 294 pieces inside a plastic wrapper, and because of that, they retain moisture.
